Computing
Values
Computational Thinking: It equips pupils with the skills to think critically and solve problems using technology.
Digital Literacy: It prepares students to navigate and use digital devices effectively, fostering their ability to communicate and collaborate online.
Creativity and Innovation: It encourages students to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
Inclusivity and Accessibility: It ensures that all students, regardless of their background, have access to the same educational opportunities.
Online Safety: It teaches students about safe and responsible online behaviour, which is increasingly important in today’s digital world.
The integration of computing into primary education is a vital step towards preparing students for the digital age and the diverse opportunities that technology offers.
Aims
We aim to provide every child with a broad and balanced computing curriculum, which enables all pupils to confidently explore and discover what is around them, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. With pupils learning the technology skills for jobs that do not exist (yet), we want our children to embrace computing.
Intent
Pupils are provided with opportunities to take part in computing lessons, designed to build upon skills they have acquired year on year. Children are provided with the knowledge and apply their knowledge to the computing skills. Throughout the year, pupils will have opportunities to experience and progress their use and understanding of computing.
Implementation
Computing is taught within the curriculum, mapped out yearly with the Dimensions curriculum professionals to incorporate all the National Curriculum requirements for computing. It is taught in every unit throughout the year in the Dimensions topic of choice.
Impact
The impact of taught computing is assessed through the use of books looks, termly teacher assessment of attainment, quizzes used as end of unit assessment completed on Kahoot (in coordination with the Dimensions curriculum to ensure fair assessment and coverage). All work completed within computing lessons linked to the topic has ample reflection of happenings and changes, progressing from Early Years to Year 6 to meet the different requirements of the age group.
Cultural capital
- School visits and visitors look to boost engagement and enjoyment in a wide variety of ways. School visits throughout the year are a core curriculum offer and immersed in the teaching & learning of other subjects
- Display of topic will have elements of computing found on it as a point of reference.
- Children will use computing skills in a wide variety of subject areas outside of computing.
